Robin Carhart-Harris discovered that psychedelics decreased brain activity because of the disinhibition of the Default Mode Network (DMN). The DMN is the place where the mind is in a mental state of daydreaming, self-reflection, thinking about others, remembering the past, and planning for the future. The DMN appears to be the key to understanding consciousness and transpersonal experiences because it is the part of the brain where the flow of consciousness occurs and what holds the brain system together
