By accepting “God is Dead,” people learned to depend on themselves and gained mastery over their own destiny. The will to power caused people to seek new experiences uninhibited by societal convention or religious beliefs. Even more important, the necessity for challenging traditional morality and outdated beliefs of what constitutes “good and evil.” A person who achieved their full potential, Nietzsche called superman, an ubermensch, overman, or higher man. In contrast of the modern Superman who helped others, flew above the people, and never shared his superpowers. The Nietzschean superman believed before saving others, one needed to first save themselves. He argued that the journey for modern salvation most often required traveling through a personal hell which meant, whatever doesn’t kill you makes you stronger.
