The Jedi Order in Star Wars was depicted as an ascetic, monastic, meritocratic, and quasi-militaristic organization that had existed for 25,000 years. The Jedi Order pursued spiritual goals, and based rank on merit. not by wealth or social class. The order became militaristic only when under attack. The Skywalker lightsaber was created by Anakin Skywalker, the Jedi Knight, and the prophesied Chosen One of the Force.

For the heroic Skywalker, the lightsaber, the boon, symbolized his power beyond the natural world, “the force,” the power of inner light, and his spiritual self which always saves him. For Jungians, the ongoing and popular response to Star Wars movies signified the human hunger and the psychological need for mythology and symbol.
