From a Jungian perspective, the result of a sandplay session is a psychic x-ray that provides a visual picture of “what needs to speak” from the unconscious. Depending on the current psychological needs of the client, the symbols of a sandplay therapy session present a visual picture of the archetypal energies, complexes, and most importantly the ego-self axis, the belief that living in relationship to the Self, our totality, moves an individual toward individuation and self-actualization. A unique feature unavailable to traditional talk psychotherapy is at the end of a sandplay session a client can take a photo, usually with their iPhone after their session; symbols to inspire their daily life.
