In his book with C. Kerenyi, Essays on a Science of Mythology: The Myth of the Divine Child and the Mysteries of Eleusis, Jung described how the weak and vulnerable divine child archetype survived against heavy odds to create a transformative life. Examples included the birth stories of Moses and Christ and how they overcame in childhood the hostility of the social and political power structure to change the world. The divine child archetype became a key component of Jungian personality theory because the divine child archetype can emerge in adulthood when there was a need to survive against overwhelming challenges.
