Fig 3.19 – Anima/Animus
Text: Page 138
Jung believed that a man carried within his psyche an unconscious feminine energy, an anima archetype, and a woman carried an unconscious masculine energy, animus archetype. He based this understanding primarily on evolution and dreamwork because psychological bisexuality reflected the biological fact that gender was the result of a few larger male or female genes. The smaller number of contrasexual genes produced a corresponding contrasexual character, which is unconscious. In dreamwork, Jung discovered the irrationality of feeling in male and thinking in female dreams.
