Fig 1.8 – Evolution

Darwin believed that human evolution began with primates and evolved into Homo sapiens, highly intelligent primates. As the only extant members of the subtribe hominid family, also known as the great apes, humans gradually developed the human traits of bipedalism, erect posture, language, and sexual selection with other evolving ape hominids. This evolutionary connection between humanity and the animal world was quickly rejected in Christian churches because of the belief that humans were superior and created by God; animals were inferior because God created animals to serve humanity.
