Timothy Leary was embraced by the counterculture. In 1967 Leary spoke at the first Human Be in Golden Gate Park in San Francisco where LSD was freely distributed to 25,000 young people and where he called upon the crowd to famously “tune in, turn on, and drop out.” For Leary, this statement symbolized the creation of a new political order.
