The Buddhist Middle Way

Attachments are essential to human survival. The problem arises when one seeks permanent attachments because all attachments are subject to ongoing change. The problem is not solved by negative feelings about attachment. The answer lies in avoiding the extremes by developing a Middle Way between overattachment and negativity toward attachment. The Middle Way is symbolized by the lotus flower, the purity of body, speech, and mind, floating above the muddy waters of attachment and desire.

Within Buddhism, the lotus holds profound symbolism representing purity, spiritual awakening, and unwavering faithfulness. This revered flower exemplifies purity by gracefully emerging from murky waters each morning, immaculately pristine. The purple lotus is a symbol of transformation and rebirth.
